DAY 5 – Mid-Afternoon
- My Ecuador Species Depend together with the go to to El Retiro and San Roque jumps as much as: 185 (130 lifers)
- Major eBird Public Hotspot: Sani Lodge
Quickly it was time for our last late‑afternoon circuit across the lagoon. However earlier than entering into the canoe, I couldn’t resist photographing yet one more Hoatzin—this one perched confidently on the thatched roof, its spiky crest and prehistoric profile making it appear like a relic from one other age.

We pushed off and glided into the flooded blackwater mangrove channels. This was a real auditory immersion. The forest round us pulsed with life: the chattering of Squirrel Monkeys leaping via the branches, the wealthy, effervescent duets of Black‑capped Donacobius, and the deep, resonant hoots of an Amazon Motmot, heard however by no means seen. The stillness of the canoe, the tender drip of water from the leaves, and the layered refrain of the forest created a second that felt suspended in time—a kind of uncommon experiences that imprint themselves perpetually.

As we emerged from the aspect channel, a Spot‑breasted Woodpecker posed fantastically on an open department above the water, its noticed breast and daring facial stripes glowing within the late‑day gentle.

Off to our left, the lodge mirrored completely within the calm lagoon, bathed in heat afternoon solar. It was a spectacular ending to our last afternoon at Sani Birding Lodge—a farewell wrapped in coloration, sound, and the quiet magic of the Amazon.
