From October 26, 2025 via November 8, 2025 I joined 5 different adventurers and an excellent photographer and birding information (Liron Gertsman) with Eagle-Eye Excursions to Ecuador. The subsequent morning, after heartfelt goodbyes to the Sani Lodge workers who had grow to be a part of our Amazon household, we boarded the canoe one final time and made a quick cease alongside the south financial institution of the Napo River at Yasuní Nationwide Park.

There, a small household of Pink Howler Monkeys lounged within the treetops, their deep russet coats glowing warmly within the early gentle. The adults sat like statues, chewing leaves with sluggish deliberation, whereas a teen clambered awkwardly alongside a department, its comfortable, plaintive calls drifting throughout the water. It was a mild farewell from the rainforest.

From there, the journey upriver grew to become unexpectedly fascinating. The captain zigzagged continuously, weaving throughout the broad expanse of the Napo in a sample that appeared virtually erratic—till we realized why. The torrential rains of the earlier three days had reshaped the river’s underwater terrain, creating shifting sandbars and submerged obstacles invisible from the floor. Although the river appeared deep and extensive, the captain’s practiced eyes learn delicate adjustments within the water’s colour and circulate, guiding us safely upstream towards Coca.

As we arrived in Coca, the sky darkened once more and a contemporary curtain of rain started to fall. Whereas attempting to outpace the downpour, I managed to seize a number of lengthy‑awaited photographs of the White‑banded Swallow—a smooth, sharply dressed species with crisp white breast band and shiny blue‑black upperparts that had eluded my digicam for the earlier 4 days. It felt like a small triumph amid the frenzy of journey.

We stated our goodbyes to the Mama Lucy and have been launched to José Gallardo, who can be our driver for the subsequent chapter of the journey. Leaving the city bustle of Coca behind, we quickly observed the panorama shifting. The dense Amazonian lowlands regularly gave strategy to taller timber, cooler air, and a rising, rolling terrain. The vegetation modified subtly at first—extra palms, extra epiphytes, extra layers of inexperienced—after which unmistakably as we climbed into the low foothills of the Andes.

By late morning we have been winding our manner towards our subsequent vacation spot: WildSumaco, perched within the decrease montane area the place Amazonian humidity meets Andean elevation. A brand new ecosystem awaited us, and with it, a completely new solid of birds and wildlife to find.
